Soccer Pro Barcelona gives the opportunity to all those families who meet the established criteria, to host a player coming from Spain, during the 2-week programme and get the whole programme for free for a player of their choice. But the benefits are not only economic, as it is also an opportunity for the kids to meet a new friend, with whom they can have a lifelong friendship.

Here are some of the more common questions we get asked
What are the criteria for hosting a player?
In order to be selected as a host family, all the families hosting a player have to be Irish or have to have English as their main language at home, as the main goal for Spanish kids, besides playing football, is learning English. At the same time, the host family must live no further than 25-30 min drive to the facilities where the camp is taking place. If this requirement is met, a member of Soccer Pro Barcelona will conduct a meeting in your house to meet you and your family personally. If all those criteria are met, your family will be selected to host one of our players.
We've never done this before, and we are worried about hosting. Will it require a lot of our time?
Our experience with host families that had the same concerns, showed us that hosting a kid is not only easier than expected, but you will probably have less work than you think, as kids will be always playing amongst themselves. 2 weeks will fly by.
How long do we have to host for?
The players are coming for 2 weeks. They arrive on the weekend before the start of the camp and return the weekend after the camp is finished.
I have 2 kids. Can I host 2 players?
Yes you can. In this case, you will have the whole 2-week program for free for both of your kids.
I have 2 kids. If I host a kid from Spain for 2 weeks, could I have the first week for free for one child and the second week free for the second child?
Yes, you can do that. If you host a player for 2 weeks, you can choose to send one of your kids on the first week and their sibling on the second week.
Do we have to collect the kids from the airport?
No you don’t. We will arrive at your city in a private bus. We’ll meet all the host families in the Club where the camp will take place. You will collect your kid/s there. We will keep everybody informed about arrival and return times.
What age will the host kids be?
We try our best to match your own kid’s age and gender, but that is not always possible. In that case, you can decide if you want to host or not.
Do we have to do something special with the players coming over?
No. Kids coming from Spain just want to be welcomed in your house and spend time with you and your children. The main goal for them is learning English and playing football. So, they just want to be treated as you would like your own kids to be treated if they were in Spain.
Will we have to drop and collect the kids from the Camp?
Yes. You will have to drop and collect the kids to and from the Camp every morning, Monday to Friday.
What do we have to do in the afternoons and weekends?
You have to do the same that you would do on a regular basis. We obviously encourage all the host families to give the kid coming from Spain a nice Irish experience, that means, that if you would like to take them to a hurling or a Gaelic match, they will be delighted. But other than that, they don’t expect or require any special treatment. They just want to spend time with you and your family.
What are our duties as a host family?
You don’t have to do anything that you wouldn’t do for your own kids. Feeding them, bringing them to and from the camps in the mornings, washing their clothes and treating them nicely, is all you need to do.
Do we have to be Garda Vetted?
Yes. Every member of your family above the age of 16 must be Garda Vetted. Soccer Pro Barcelona will cover all the costs that this entails. Once you have been selected as a Host Family, we will send you all the forms to be filled out.
Can I host the younger coaches instead of players?
Yes. You can host one or more of our younger coaches. In this case, your children will have the same benefits as if you were hosting a player, and you will have the same duties as a Host Family.
